Weekly Aims and Objectives

For my final project I am working on a script titled "Lost and Found" from a company called 1000 EYES (Dave), and I'm working on putting forward a set of storyboards to give him a visual representation of his script. Hopefully, it should be completely finished by mid-next week, which will allow me to focus on colouring up and enhancing them.

Devil Squad - all pretty and messed up digitally

Cartoon Network complete (sort of)

This is my semi-completed project for the YCN Cartoon Network brief. It's...alright but I really want to go back to it when I can to make it nice and shiny for my end of year Portfolio, some sound would probably be nice too. But this is how it turned out initially.

Work from my Portfolio

I had to totally bring my Portfolio up to scratch for my interviews, the one at Sunderland didn't go to hot (as I've probably mentioned) but the one for Creative Practise earned me a place!

So here's some of the work I put forward;

Cartoon Network Project

I haven't blogged in aaages! My project is almost finished, and I'll put up my finished version when it's complete but for now here's some coloured up shots and screen shots of the work in progress. The character has changed LOADS yet again.

JAMIE HEWLETT

British comic books artist and designer Jamie Hewlett attended Worthing Art College, where he set up his own fanzine, Atomtan, with fellow students Alan Martin and Philip Bond. When Hewlett left college, Bret Ewins offered him and his friend Alan Martin a chance to do comics in a new magazine called Deadline.
In 1988, the boys collaborated on a strip called 'Tank Girl'. The anarchic strip about a teenage punk girl soon became Deadline's most popular comic. (A 'Tank Girl' feature film was released by MGM in 1995.) He created the strip 'Get the Freebies' for the British monthly The Face. At this time, he lived in a flat with Damon Albarn, with whom he set up the pop group Gorillaz in 1998. Hewlett did the character designs, based upon his 'Get the Freebies' characters, for this virtual band, while Albarn focused on the music.

Jamie Hewlett on his Olympics animation;

‘It looks wonderful and I’m really thrilled by it,’ says Hewlett. ‘It’s gone through so many changes because there are so many departments at the BBC, and the Olympics is their biggest gig of the year. Damon [Albarn] and I are used to having the luxury of doing exactly what we want, and we understand that this whole idea of using animated ancient Chinese characters is quite a wild-card for them. But somebody at the BBC had seen the Monkey opera and they put our name into the mix. And I think we’ve managed to keep the BBC happy, to tick every box, without ruining the original idea. I mean, the characters aren’t wearing running vests!’

MARVEL BABIES

I have drawn so many cutesy little kid characters in the last few days that whenever I try to draw anything else it comes out like this!

NEW Character designs

The character that I originally work on wasn't too great, he would've been a faff on to animate with him being little and chunky so I went back to the drawing board to fully realise my character, and this is what came of it.

The character done in ink (with the scruffy hair and square head) is my finalized design. His skinny body will be really easy to animate and his big facial features will make great expressions.

Character development

Had to develop my character for the Cartoon Network campaign to make him a bit more interesting, and apparently he looks "cuter" when he's smaller. Wicked.

Friday, 5 February 2010

I'm doing the Cartoon Network brief to produce a campaign to encourage kids to use their imagination, and to let them know that the channel is a place for creative young minds.

(Very early ideas for a character to be used in my upcoming animation, but the character needs to be SERIOUSLY developed)

Devil Squad - Frankie

My girlfriend Amanda came up with Frankie.

I was going through character designs and was working on a character called Frank, and Amanda looked through the team and said "Ok, so where's the girl? Every team needs a girl".

So reworking the character (which actually turned out much better, yes Amanda, you were right.), I came up with Frankie.

Devil Squad - Will

The next bit in my little comic. It took me ages to come up with Will, I knew I wanted a character who wasn't like everyone else, he had more old fashioned "heroic values" and didn't like the whole army thing. I spent ages doing different uniform designs when I decided to have him as a dark Cloak/Batman style character.

Devil Squad - Gabriel

If you saw my 3D project last year, you might recognise this lad.

Gabriel's good fun to write, for the most part because he's a total smart-arse. More up soon!

Chapter one cont.

Devil Squad- Chapter One

I started doing this a while ago, so thought I'd put the first bit up on here!
The last page wouldn't fit on, so I'll put it up in another post, let me know what you reckon!

Oh Snow

Two snow days have mucked up the progress of group work, halting the beginning of animation, recording sound, pretty much all digital work, so hopefully we can all pull it together and work hard on Monday the 11th Jan to hit that 15th deadline!

Some shots from coloured up storyboards

I thought the storyboards would look more interesting in greyscale, keeping them all the same scale of colours is not only a great time saver, it keeps all the shots relevant to each other.
